Kate Humble
Kate Humble to appear at the show on Saturday 27th February!

With family connections to both the Hartley Colliery Disaster and The Great Escape, it's easy to see why Kate Humble's episode of Who Do You Think You Are? was the most watched of series 7. And with such a fascinating family story, we are delighted to announce that Kate will be appearing at Who Do You Think You Are? LIVE 2010 on Saturday 27th February!
First of all, Kate found out that her paternal grandfather Bill was a respected pilot who performed stunts to entertain the crowds at air shows, and also helped develop the Hawker Tempest which played an important part in World War II as the fighter plane which defended Great Britain against doodlebugs.
But Bill isn't Kate's only ancestor of significance - her great great great grandfather Joseph was a colliery "viewer" at the Hartley pit in Northumberland at the time of the Hartley Colliery Disaster, and was praised, along with the other viewers, for his courage in trying to rescue the 204 men and boys trapped underground.
Kate then began investigating her maternal lineage, and discovers her grandfather Stan was an airman during World War II and was sent to Stalag Luft III in Poland after being shot down during a bombing raid. In 1944, Stalag Luft III was the scene of the Great Escape, and as Stan was linked to the escape committee, it is distinctly possible that he was awaiting his moment for escape when the Germans realised what was happening.
For your chance to see Kate discuss her fascinating ancestors live on stage and get an exclusive insight into the making of the programme, be sure to visit Who Do You Think You Are? LIVE 2010!
